SPOON WORKSHOP | MAKERS MESS
in this two part workshop (3/13 + 3/20) you’ll be invited to learn how to spoon with clay! we will be designing, hand building and glazing several ceramic spoons together.
in the first session you’ll be taught everything you need to know in order to build several ceramic spoons. we’ll cover the essentials of working with clay: clay stages, basic terms and a few hand building techniques will be modeled for you to explore. from their participants will choose their own path to creating several original spoons.
the next session, a week later, is all about surface. during this class underglaze, glaze, glaze pencils and sgraffito techniques are demonstrated. we’ll go over several design motifs for inspiration. the rest of the time is yours to decorate your own spoons. they will be available for you to pick up the week following our final meeting.
beginners are welcome and those with experience too. all materials are provided. just bring yourself and get ready to get your hands dirty.
klai brown lives and works in lakewood ca. she earned her bachelor of fine art in ceramics at cal state university at long beach. her illustrated line of functional ware can be found at museum shops, showrooms and galleries across the united states.
